Need extra support during your tour due to mobility or medical needs? Not sure if you should travel with a companion? This guide explains when a dedicated travel companion is required and what to expect if you’re bringing one along.
If you need ongoing physical support or help managing mobility devices, you’ll need to travel with a companion who can assist you throughout the tour. While our Tour Directors, drivers, and local guides are there to support the group as a whole, they aren’t able to provide one-on-one assistance.
When a companion is required
If you need help with any of the following, a full-paying travel companion is required:
- Getting on and off the motor coach
- Carrying and managing your luggage
- Operating or transporting mobility devices (like pushing a wheelchair)
- Keeping pace with the group
- Making personal adjustments to the itinerary (such as taking a taxi instead of walking)
Please be sure to include these needs in your Health Notes in your online account (U.S. travelers/Canadian travelers) or mobile app (U.S. travelers/Canadian travelers). We may reach out to both you and your companion before your tour to go over expectations and help you feel fully prepared.
What your companion should expect
A dedicated companion will be responsible for:
- Providing physical support throughout the tour
- Managing all luggage and mobility equipment
- Assisting with daily activities and helping to navigate group movement
- Be prepared for full, active days and varying terrain
We know that every traveler’s needs are unique, and we’re here to help make the process as smooth as possible. If you have questions about traveling with - or as - a support companion, send us a message and a specialist will be in touch.
Next steps:
- Add details about your need for a companion in your health notes.
- Make sure your companion understands what’s expected of them.
- Reach out to us with any questions ahead of your departure.
