Extra hotel nights with extended stays

Looking to arrive early or stay a little longer? Adding independent hotel nights before or after your tour, known as pre-stays and post-stays, is a great way to ease into your trip or explore more on your own.

How to request extra nights

We'll reach out to the hotels on your behalf to request a reservation for your preferred dates. 

  • Contact our team to request additional nights - we'll get you a quote for the stay and request availability
    • Let us know the dates you are interested in staying
  • If you’ve booked Go Ahead airfare, we can adjust your flights to match your extended travel dates (additional costs will apply)
  • Requests must be made before your Tour Finalization Date (70–90 days before departure)

You can find your Tour Finalization Date in your online account (U.S. travelers/Canadian travelers) or mobile app (U.S. travelers/Canadian travelers).

What to expect

Hotel location

  • Extra nights can typically be added in your arrival or departure city (your "airport city"). In many cases, we can also arrange extra nights in your tour's start or end city, if it differs from your airport city. When you add extra nights, we'll work with you to find out which city works best for you.
    • For example, travelers fly into Milan on our Grand Tour of Italy (U.S. travelers/Canadian travelers), but the first hotel location is the Lake Como region. Depending on your preference, extra nights could be booked in either Milan or the Lake Como region.
  • For stays in other cities, you’ll need to book accommodations independently
  • A note for travelers on the following tours: Germany, Switzerland & Austria, Oktoberfest: Germany, Switzerland & Austria, and Christmas Markets of Germany, Switzerland & Austria:
    • We are currently unable to book any pre-stays for travelers. If you are interested in coming in early, please plan to book accommodations independently.
  • If your tour offers an extension in the same city as the main tour, we are unable to book extended stays.
    • For example, the tour extension for our tour, Ireland for Solo Travelers (U.S. travelers/Canadian travelers), is in Dublin. The main tour ends in Dublin. We would not be able to book an independent stay in Dublin for someone not booked on the extension.

Hotel availability

  • We aim to book the same hotel as your main tour, but it’s not always guaranteed
  • If unavailable, we’ll offer an alternative and confirm with you before booking
  • If none of our partner hotels have availability, we will remove the extended stay and email you a confirmation
  • Hotel details for extra nights are typically shared two weeks before departure

  • Costs vary by location, room type, and duration
  • We’ll review pricing with you before confirming your stay
  • Depending on the hotel and availability, additional costs can apply - we will contact you to confirm any additional costs prior to booking your stay

What's included during your independent stay

Pre- and post-stays are fully independent: a chance to explore at your own pace.

  • Included: Hotel accommodation for your requested dates
  • Not included: Transportation, meals, drinks, activities, guides, or excursions

Your Tour Director is only present during the main tour dates. For support before or after the tour, our On-Tour Support Team is available 24/7 at +1 617-619-1911.

Joining or departing the group

  • Pre-stay: You'll officially join the tour on the first day of your itinerary — your Tour Director will connect with you at the hotel.
  • Post-stay: Once the main tour ends, you'll transition into your independent days. If you're staying at the same property, simply check back in at the front desk for your extended stay reservation.
