Ferry transfers are a scenic and efficient way to travel between destinations, and they come with a few unique logistics. Here’s what to know so you’re prepared for a smooth experience.
Boarding & exiting
- Walking required: Buses may not drop off directly at the ferry - expect to walk, sometimes uphill or over uneven ground
- Luggage is self-managed: You’ll carry your own bags to and from the ferry
- Quick boarding: Be ready to stand in line and board efficiently
- Stairs or ramps: Most ferries require navigating steps or steep ramps without assistance
Ferries are public transportation, so boarding can feel fast-paced and crowded.
Luggage
- Porterage is not provided
- Larger bags are stored in a shared area below the main deck and can’t be accessed during the ride
- Keep personal items (medications, valuables, etc.) with you
Weather considerations
Conditions at sea can be unpredictable and vary depending on the season.
We recommend packing:
- Motion sickness medication
- A raincoat or windbreaker
- Sturdy shoes for walking and boarding
Amenities
- Before you board, the waiting areas may not have seating, food, or restrooms
- Onboard, most ferries have restrooms and a small café for light drinks and snacks
- Wi-Fi is not guaranteed but may be available for purchase in some areas
Seating
- Seating may be assigned or open - your Tour Director will explain the setup and direct your group to your seats
- Ferry tickets are held by your Tour Director until boarding
Next steps:
- Pack motion sickness medication and weather-appropriate clothing.
- Be prepared to carry your own luggage.
- Follow your Tour Director’s instructions closely during boarding.
