This article contains step-by-step instructions on how to apply for the Vietnam e-visa. You can start applying for this visa once your Vietnam hotel details are available in your online account (U.S. travelers/Canadian travelers) and mobile app, which is typically 30 days before departure. How to apply for the Vietnam e-visa
To apply for the Vietnam e-visa, use this link: https://evisa.gov.vn/ and click “Apply now”.
You will be asked to read the declaration instructions, you’ll need to scroll to the bottom and select the two boxes for confirming compliance and reading the instructions. Then click Next.
The photo requirements are very specific. The portrait photography will need to be a photo of you in front of a white background. The passport data page is the page that includes the photo of you. Please ensure both photos do not have any glare and the passport photo includes the entire page of the passport without corners cut out.
At the end of the application, the system may give you a match percentage when it compares the two photos. In order for the application to be correctly received, the match percentage will need to be green. A recommendation for making the match percentage high enough, you may pose in the portrait photography page to match your passport photo, such as matching facial expressions.
If you do not receive any error messages about the match percentage, please continue as normal.
Please ensure that only the boxes indicated with a red asterisk * are filled out.
Fill out your personal information. You do not need to fill out the “Identity Card” option. Make sure the box to agree to create an account is selected. Religion will need to be entered. If you are not religious, you may enter Atheist or nonreligious. You may click “No” to the other prompts.
You will want a single-entry e-visa. Enter your arrival and departure dates to/from Vietnam. Please remember that your arrival date may not be the same date as the first day of your tour. We recommend using your arrival flight date. You can use your mobile app itinerary to dictate which date your tour departs Vietnam.
Enter your passport information. Most travelers will have an Ordinary passport unless indicated otherwise.
Enter your personal contact information, rather than the information of contact in Vietnam.
Occupation information does not need to be filled out, and it is not required if you do not wish to enter it.
Your purpose of entry is Tourism. Enter your intended date of entry as indicated on your flight information and the length of stay in Vietnam.
Enter the residential address in Vietnam of the first hotel in Hanoi. The Province is Ha Noi City. The District and Ward/commune may not be provided. You may have to Google the hotel name to obtain the extended GPS address and use the drop down options in the boxes to find the match from the GPS address.
The entry gate is Noi Bai Intl Airport of Hanoi. The border gate of exit is Tan Son Nhat Intl Airport of Ho Chi Minh City. Select to commit to declare temporary residence in Vietnam. Select No to the remaining prompts.
You may leave the accompanying children section and trip expenses sections blank. Select Next.
You will be brought to review the inputted information. Ensure it is all correct. Scroll to enter the Security code in the blank box and select Next.
You will be prompted to begin to make payment for $25. Read the terms in yellow and select “I agree to pay”.
You will be brought to a secure payment screen. Select the best option for you and follow the prompts. Once payment is made, you will receive this screen:
You will receive an email of payment confirmation from Vietcombank and another email of confirmation that an application has been submitted from no-reply immigration.gov.vn. The confirmation email includes your application number. Please keep record of this email, as you may need the application number to check the status of the visa. In about 5-6 business days, you should receive another email that your application has been processed. The e-visa itself is not emailed to you, and you will need to follow the next steps.

Enter your application number (that was emailed upon payment confirmation), the email address used on the application, your date of birth, and the security code as seen to the right of the empty box form.
Here is an example of an approved visa,. You can click “Get e-Visa” to download a PDF and print to bring with you on tour.
If you do not receive the email that the application is processed, you may otherwise receive an email that the application status has changed or needs amending. You can follow the steps for checking the visa status and see the application status for amendments needed. There is another red box that shows "Edit" where you can see the entire application and make any necessary amendments.
