This article contains step-by-step instructions on how to apply for the Vietnam e-visa. You can start applying for this visa once your Vietnam hotel details are available in your online account (U.S. travelers/Canadian travelers) and mobile app, which is typically 30 days before departure. Learn how to find your hotel details.
Please note that visa requirements are always subject to change. For the most current and accurate information, we recommend checking the U.S. Department of State's website, the Government of Canada's website or getting in touch with the respective country's consulate or embassy.
While our team is dedicated to keeping visa information up to date, please be aware that consulate applications are subject to change. As a result, your application may differ slightly from this guide. In such cases, use this guide as a reference, but follow your application’s instructions.
How to apply for the Vietnam e-visa
U.S. and Canadian passport holders can apply by visiting https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/web/guest/trang-chu-ttdt and selecting "FOR FOREIGNERS" on the left.
Then, read each step and select the box at the bottom confirming you've read the instructions. After, select “Next.”
On the next page, you'll need to upload your passport sized photo and a scan of your passport information page. Do this by clicking “Select” under the photos and locating the proper files on your computer. Once you've uploaded them, your images should appear in place of the sample photos.
Next, enter your personal information by filling out each box with a red asterisk only and selecting "No" under “Have you ever used any other passports to enter into Viet Nam?"
Continue filling out the required boxes with a red asterisk. You'll be applying for a single entry e-visa, unless you're planning independent travel in Vietnam before or after your scheduled tour.
Enter the date you will arrive in Vietnam (not your departure date from your home country) and the date you will exit Vietnam (please check your itinerary for these dates). Most travelers will have an ordinary passport and will need to provide their passport number, issue date, expiration date, and country of issue. You should select “No” for holding any other passports. Providing your contact and occupation information is optional but recommended, including details for an emergency contact.
Continue answering the required questions with a red asterisk. Your purpose of entry is tourism.
Enter the date you will arrive in Vietnam (not your departure date from your home country) and the date you will exit Vietnam (again, you can reference your itinerary for these dates). All tours visiting Vietnam will enter into Hanoi Airport (HAN) and exit from Ho Chi Minh Saigon Airport (SGN).
The intended temporary residential address in Vietnam is the first hotel on your tour (which can be found in the Go Ahead app) and the city/province is Hanoi. You can select “No” for having been to Vietnam in the last year or having any relatives in Vietnam. You don't need to fill out trip expenses or insurance.
Next, certify that you've truthfully declared all relevant details. Then, fill out the Captcha box with the characters you see and select “Review application form.”
After, you should see a pop-up box confirming your registration, which includes your dates and registration number. You can use this registration code to check the status of your application once it's been submitted. Next, select the "OK" button in red.
On this screen, you can verify that the information you entered is correct. At the bottom, select “Payment” to pay for the e-visa.
Please review your personal details. The two boxes at the bottom will be automatically filled to accept the fees, allowing you to select "Pay e-visa fee."
From here, select your payment method for the $25 USD e-visa charge. Select the arrows on the right for the available options, which include ATM card or credit card.
Next, enter your payment information. Once completed, select the green “Continue” button at the bottom.
You'll receive a confirmation that your application has been received. The e-visa normally takes 3 to 5 business days to process and you can check the status of your application at https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/tra-cuu-thi-thuc by entering your reservation code, email address, and date of birth.
Make sure to bring a printed copy of your visa with you on tour!
